On Monday, Ryann Lafrance (Noah, 3, and Alana, 5) stopped by to talk to our Pre-K and Kindergarten students about her engineering work with Lockheed Martin. With the help of a great powerpoint presentation, our students learned all about airplanes and the forces involved in flying--thrust, drag, lift, and gravity. Everyone had a blast doing a hands-on activity with paper and model airplanes too!
Based on the input we got at one of our Parent Advisory Board Meetings, we have begun hosting Career Day presentations at Future Scholars where our students can learn about some of the things our families do for a living. This was a busy week with presentations from two parents! On Friday we had another special guest--Lauren Hejazi (Kaela, 2, and Kaden, 4) who is a dental hygienist. She taught our students in Rooms 6, 10, 11, and 12 all about the importance of dental health (just in time since February is National Dental Health Month!), what it is like to go to the dentist, and the proper way to brush your teeth. Our students even had a chance to practice brushing on a special dragon friend. Thank you very much to Ryann and Lauren for such fun, informative, and engaging presentations as well as for the goodies they brought our students to take home with them. Our students had so much fun that we would love to have more Career Day presentations throughout the year. If you are interested in talking to our students about your job, please let us know!
