Mixing the Colors of the Rainbow

Toddlers mixing paint to make orange
For Rainbows & Colors Week last week, Ms. Chelsea and Ms. Jennifer's toddlers in Room 9 studied a different color each day of the week. They especially loved mixing paints to make new colors!

Mixing colors is a fun activity that combines art and science! When using a paint brush or sponge, mixing colors is also an activity to strengthen fine motor skills.

Parachuting into Fitness!

One of our students' favorite activities is the giant parachute! Working in coordination with the CATCH program, parachute activities promote increased strength, agility, coordination, and endurance. They also teach teamwork and cooperation. Most importantly, they are fun!

This week, Ms. Charlene's pre-schoolers were non-stop laughing while they did a variety of parachute activities. Shaking yarn pom poms like popcorn encouraged students to work together to keep the balls on the parachute. Using team work to lift the parachute up in the air like a canopy was a highlight because children could take turns running underneath, and of course, "waking waves" with the parachute was fun while improving gross motor skills.

Last week was Rainbows & Colors week at Future Scholars and we celebrated with a colorful and tasty Cooking Class. Our students used their fine motor skills to either place fruit loops on a plate in the shape of a rainbow or thread them onto a straw. Marshmallows made the perfect clouds to finish things off!

Kids Love Fruit!

Silly banana
Fruit is nourishing for the body and delicious to eat....a combination that helps us be healthy! Most kids love fruit, so it makes the perfect snack to feed your little one!
Recommendations:
MyPlate recommends that children 4-8 years old eat 1.5 cups of fruit every day.
What counts as a cup? In general: 1 cup of fruit, 1 cup of 100% juice, or 1/2 cup of dried fruit.
Tips for parents:
  • Make fruit easily accessible. Example: wash and put fruit in a bowl where your child can reach it
  • Action speaks louder than words! Eat fruit in front of and with your children
  • Make a fruit salad together. Let your child chose which fruits to use. This Cookie Cutter Fruit Salad is a great option that kids will love!
  • Fruits make a yummy dessert. Mix fruit with yogurt to make a fresh fruit parfait!
  • Remember that fresh fruits are always better than juice
