The Mitten Tree

Next week our academic theme is "The Mitten" by Jan Brett, a Ukrainian Folktale about a lost mitten, which becomes the home for multiple woodland creatures including a mouse, a fox, and a bear. We will be reading the book and doing Mitten-themed crafts all week and this year we're adding another special activity to fit with the themed and give back to the community....

Beginning Monday, December 7TH, we will be collecting new winter gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves for children and adults to fill our "Mitten Tree". All items will be donated to the Burlington County Family Success Center in Mt. Holly and will benefit local families this winter.

Student playing in the snow
With the frigid cold weather we have had lately, all our classrooms have been doing alternative in-door activities rather than go out outside, but this week Ms. Tracy's friends in Room 10 got bundled up and ventured out to the playground for some snowy fun!

Check out more photos of our students playing in the snow and be sure to check back periodically for new additions to this album!

A Cooking Class Fit for the Winter Weather

This month's Cooking Class fit in perfectly with the arctic weather we've been having...we made polar bears!

A scoop of ice cream made the perfect polar bear head as students used whipped cream, chocolate chips, & vanilla wafers to bring their bears to life.
Cooking with children is a great way to build fine motor skills, explore the senses, and try new things! Our Cooking Classes also inspire children to use their creativity and imaginations. Read more about the importance of cooking with kids and find great ideas about how to get your child(ren) involved in cooking at home at Kids Health.

Feelin' Frosty

With the freezing temperatures we've been having lately, our students have been stuck inside! To keep cabin fever from setting in, some of our classrooms are getting very creative with their activities....

Just in time for the small snowstorm last week, our Kindergarteners had a blast acting like snowmen! After being wrapped up in snow (toilet paper), Room 6 had their buttons applied and they bundled up in their winter hats, scarves, and gloves. Our lobby made the perfect winter scene for our little snowmen to gather in front of!
